Concealed Weapon Permits

Carry Concealed Weapons Permits are only issued by the Palm Springs Police Department to full-time residents of the City of Palm Springs. Palm Springs residents seeking a Carry Concealed Weapons Permit must contact the Carry Concealed Weapons Permit Coordinator at (760)323-8121, and request an office interview to discuss the permit program and to pick up an application packet. Carry Concealed Weapons Permits may be issued to persons who can pass a criminal history background check, are of good moral character, complete the required training, and demonstrate that good cause exists to issue such a permit. Certain fees are non-refundable regardless as to whether your application is approved or denied. Total fees for obtaining the initial permit can be about $500, including a psychological exam and a State mandated training course.

The Palm Springs Police Department conducts a detailed investigation to determine your moral and physical fitness, mental history, criminal record, and general background, as well as your need to carry a weapon. The department will notify you when final status has been reached on your application, which may take up to three or four months, depending on the availability of the required training class. If approved, you will receive your permit to carry a concealed weapon which is valid anywhere in California, with a few exceptions, for a period of two years. You must fire a prescribed qualification course on the Firearms Range during each year that the permit is in effect. The permit automatically expires after two years, unless renewed for another two-year period, providing that good cause still exists for issuance of the permit and the applicant still continues to pass updated background investigations and criminal history checks.

For more information, or to apply for a permit, contact the Palm Springs Police Department's Carry Concealed Weapons Permit Coordinator at 760-323-8121 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. That number again is 760-323-8121.
