Note from TBJ: Placer County will check the weapons you are registering on your CCW to make sure that they are registered with you at the D.o.J.. We do not know if you can have a firearm on your permit that is registered to your partner.

Note: These steps are for legal residents of Placer County. If you are a resident of another county, please contact the appropriate agency.

Applicant must reside in the jurisdiction of the Sheriff-Coroner of Placer County and have proof of residency.
CCW Application Procedure Handout
Criteria for issuing CCW

Successfully complete 8 hour CCW training class. Qualified training centers in your area. Training Centers

Schedule appointment by calling (530)889-7800.
At the time of your appointment, bring the following to our Auburn office
Your completed"Standard Application for License to Carry a Concealed Weapon (CCW)"DOJ CCW permit application (pdf).
Up to three Unloaded weapons you wish to register.
Livescan fingerprinting will be conducted at the time of your appointment, and the normal fingerprinting fee is included in the $210.00 CCW application fee.
The permit is only valid in California for two years from the issued date.

Renewal is necessary every two years
Take the 4 hour CCW Renewal class Training Centers
Bring in your successful Completion Certificate and $77.00 renewal fee to our Auburn office.

You are required by law to notify our department and make documented changes to your permit should you:
Move to any new address, even within Placer County
Add, remove or change registered weapons
Should you need to make any of these changes, please contact our Records Department by calling (530)889-7800.
The cost is $5.00 per change.
Add, remove or change registered weapons (examples below)
removing weapon = 1 change
changing weapons = 2 changes (1 add new, 1 remove previous)

Laminated Permit needing changes
It is possible to make changes to a laminated card for a fee of $5.00 in addition to the Change fees mentioned above.

If your permit is lost, we can provide a certified copy for a $5.00 fee
