A Testimonial from a Satisfied Permit HolderIn the fall of 2007 I decided to apply for a California CCW. I had given it some thought for over a year, and had searched various web sites to read about the process, I was very intimidated and thought that I didn't stand a chance. I read other people’s stories about what they went through, and the problems they encountered in various counties of California with their "Good Cause" statements needed to get a CCW. I have non-resident CCW's in various states and since I travel a lot and carry my weapon all the time, when I get to my home state, California, it seemed unnatural not to be armed, like I was missing something, like my wallet. So I decided to go for it. I searched the web site for what constitutes a proper "Good Cause" and crafted mine. During my searches I always came across Team Billy Jack, so, when I finished my statement I sent a copy to them. Billy Jack called me, and we both went over the statement together. He made some final and possibly crucial adjustments to it, and I submitted the completed paperwork to my county’s Sheriff’s Department. The paperwork went through without a hitch. I had my interview and the officers who interviewed me were very nice and respectful. The impression I got was that they needed a really good reason ( a good-GOOD CAUSE) to issue the CCW because of the fear that the Sheriff's Department would be sued if the CCW holder did something and they were drawn into the litigation that ensued. I however met some other applicants that didn't make it, and I believe their good cause statements were just as justifiable as mine. I even talked with one person who appealed, without success, so I guess your first shot at it needs to be your best. Not only do you need a good-good cause, but it has to be crafted well, and you have to present yourself the same way at the interview. In summary the process is very subjective but it is doable and should not stop someone from trying. Furthermore, Team Billy Jack was instrumental to my smooth and successful CCW Permit acquisition. It did help that I belonged to one of the approved categories of CCW holders in my county, and that I believe I presented myself well, or at least clicked with the interviewing officers. Thanks Team Billy Jack!!
